It’s one thing to hear rumours of a new Metal Gear Solid title from a couple different gaming sources but when Hideo Kojima himself appears in the UK edition of PlayStation Magazine and confirms not only that it exists but also that he’ll be running the show from either a director or producer standpoint, the news quickly becomes tough to doubt.

There’s little else to really discuss for now as the issue has yet to hit shelves but the mere fact that the game is real (or will be) should tide most people over until November 29th when the latest issue of the UK PSM arrives on store shelves. In addition to the first details of Metal Gear Solid 5, Kojima will also be chatting about the recently teased and totally mysterious “Project Ogre” that he’ll be working on as well.

Sneaky stuff indeed.

Fans of the Elder Scrolls series that were worried that a particular recently released war game or restricted holiday hours might interfere with the launch of the franchise’s fifth installment can now rest assured as, according to the game’s publisher/developer Bethesda, Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has shipped 7 million units in this first week.

If you’re one of the few people who haven’t grabbed the game yet, I don’t completely blame you. With games like Uncharted 3, Battlefield 3 and Saints Row The Third having arrived within the last little while, there’s definitely no shortage of things to play but do yourself a favor and get your hands on a copy of this game.

I hear it’s pretty good.

If you were anywhere near a video game retailer over the past couple days you would have noted that not only was the new Call of Duty game available but also that many people were lining up day and night to secure themselves a copy of the latest release of the now annual series.

Today, the game’s publisher Activision has noted that on day one alone the company had sold 6.5 million copies of the game, in the US and UK markets, for the various consoles it was released for including PS3, 360 and PC to name a few. While EA’s Battlefield 3 has certainly closed the gap on the leader in modern-day war games, what with BF3 shipping 5 million units in the first week, it’s clear that they have a lot of work to do if they ever hope to surpass the completely unexplainable success that COD now has.

This leads to an interesting question: how long can Activision keep pumping out this title each year and seeing increased sales? Eventually, the bubble has to burst. Look at the Guitar Hero games for example, which is another series published by Activision. The rhythm game series enjoyed success over the years selling over 25 million copies of the various titles but has since decreased exponentially due to the high volume of games being released (There were seven Hero titles released in 2010).

Could Call of Duty share the same fate? Looking at the numbers released today, it’s hard to see that happen but I wouldn’t say it’s impossible.

During a conference call on Wednesday, Activision CEO Robert Kotick also confirmed that a new Call of Duty is in the works and will be released, as usual, in November of next year.

The three pictures appear to be shots of Oscorp Industries, Spider-Man kicking some butt in a subway (or factory?), and finally what appears to be Peter Parker’s apartment.

According to Dee Brown’s Twitter page, an official trailer for the came should be coming sometime in the near future and, with the Columbia Pictures film set to be released on July 2nd, 2012, we also have an idea of when to expect the full game to hit shelves.

Like some sort of magic trick performed by Zatanna, Sony Online Entertainment’s MMO DC Universe Online, you know the one where you get to play as superheroes, has officially made the transition from a fully paid subscription based game to a much more affordable (for some) free-to-play model. If you’re the owner of a PC built this side of 3 years ago or a PlayStation 3, you can now download the game client, sit through 15+ gigabytes of updates and then fight evil/good guys alongside all your favorite DC heroes and villains all for the cost of zero dollars.

Those that feel compelled to spend some money still have the ability to do so with DCUO’s pricing plans, which will also give you bonus items, more inventory slots, etc. Here’s the breakdown of the plans:

Free Access – Just like it sounds. Download and play the game for free. You also get all ongoing game updates (except DLC packs).

Premium Access – This next level of access opens up to you if you spend at least $5 in the in-game store. Premium Access grants you added benefits that improve your experience in the game, such as more inventory slots, more character slots, bank slots and more free Vault tickets. So all you have to do is pick up some cool items in the store or buy a DLC pack and you unlock Premium Access. The best part? Once you unlock Premium Access you keep it for the life of your account.

Legendary Access – With Legendary Access you can unlock the maximum level of features and benefits. To unlock Legendary Access you can pay for a $14.99 per month game pass, or save big with a discounted multi-month pass. Lifetime members are automatically granted Legendary access. Legendary Access also includes all DLC packs at no extra charge.

So, why are you still reading this? The streets of Gotham City aren’t going to save themselves. If you’re interested in playing with the gang here at POA, make yourself available to the USPS3 server and toss your user name to us via the contact form or in a comment below.

The streets of Vinewood never looked so good in Rockstar’s first official trailer for the upcoming GTA title. The story, based on the events that unfold in the trailer, will follow a currently unnamed family-man character through the now rundown streets of the Los Angeles inspired city that (at least some of) GTA: San Andreas took place in.

Check out the trailer below (be sure to click on 720p for the best viewing experience) and let us know what you think in the comments section below.

While the trailer gives us no official release date, the game looks like it’s coming along nicely. I’d be surprised if we didn’t see this game smashing and grabbing its way into a PS3 or 360 near us before the end of 2012.

Electronic Arts and DICE have announced today that Battlefield 3 has sold over five-million units worldwide. These numbers are based on internal estimates and include the sales from the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 versions.

Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: ERTS) today announced that based on internal estimates, Battlefield 3™ has sold through five million units in the first week globally, making it the fastest-selling game in EA’s history.

The outstanding retail performance is driven by critic’s reviews averaging above 85 on console and above 90 on PC.* Word-of-mouth from gamers is also driving sales — Battlefield 3 now has more than 2.5 Million “likes” on Facebook®. Following the tradition of all games in this storied franchise; Battlefield 3 includes a superior multi-player experience. Consumers have logged-on in unprecedented numbers to team up and join the battle.

Server stability was solid in the first weekend, delivering EA’s highest-ever usage rates. While some players experienced intermittent disruption of online services due to high volume, internal estimates show that servers and service uptime stabilized to roughly 98.9% throughout the weekend, ensuring that players were connected and enjoying the game. With a commitment to support the game as a software service, EA is listening to consumer feedback and is making daily updates and improvements to ensure an optimal online experience for all.

Follow this link for the complete news release.

EA’s announcement compounded with last week’s news that Arkham City has shipped over 4.6 million copies, is excellent news for the gaming industry which has been showing concern as of late with the slumping sales of key franchises (i.e. Killzone 3).

Now we’ll have to see how Modern Warfare 3 fares when it is released next week as many analysts are saying that it will sell much higher than Battlefield 3.

It might not have been the best year for our local convention here in Manitoba, what with Wizard World acquiring and then unacquiring the event within a 9 month span but, as they say, the show must go on. While the event is pretty light on comic book special guests, fans of pretty well any Star Trek series will be pleased to know that a number of cast members from the various incarnations of the show will be appearing and available for photo-ops or autographs.

The Artist Alley will certainly be a highlight for any comic book fan as many people from all over the country have been signed on to appear there including artist Michael Golden, who was set to appear at the WW event here and decided to appear despite WW’s cancellation, as well as a number of local artists and creators as well.

C4 now has the full programming guide available on their official website, which includes Costume Contests as well as a Q&A session with guest William Shatner to name a few.

Tickets to the event are $15.00 per day or $35.00 for the weekend. The event begins on Friday, October 28th (exclusively for weekend pass holders) and will be running until the evening of the 30th. Those in attendance should keep an eye out for our editors as they’ll be there grabbing photos of the event as well and, to the best of my knowledge, don’t bite so be sure to say hello.

See you at the con!

Apologies for the rush of Arkham City news as of late but we just can’t help ourselves. The game is really good but, like many other games, will undoubtedly get even better with the addition of DLC. Specifically, the upcoming Nightwing pack, which arrives next week, that will add not only Nightwing himself but a number of challenge maps as well as an alternate skin from the 90s Batman animated series.

Still not convinced that the Nightwing pack is for you? Check out Mr. Grayson in action below:

The Nightwing pack will be available on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 November 1st and will sell for 560 Microsoft Points, which translates to $6.99 for PSN users.
