While we’ve already seen some fists fly between Marvel’s two superhero groups during the Allan Heinberg helmed Childrens Crusade, it looks like the publisher is taking it a step further beginning next year as we see the two teams collide for the fate of the Phoenix Force, which has come back to Earth to claim a new host.

Click the image below for the much larger, much more badass version:

Lakers & Celtics; Ali & Frazier; Yankees & Red Sox; and in comics it’s the Avengers fighting the X-Men. We’ve brought together the biggest writers, biggest artists and biggest characters for the biggest story we’ve ever told. This is the kind of high-octane action-packed story that fans demand while also having a profound effect on every character involved—and reshaping the Marvel Universe in its wake. (Axel Alonso – Marvel Entertainment Editor-in-Chief)

The series, according to Marvel, will be a twelve issue, bi-weekly event that will feature writers Brian Michael Bendis, Jason Aaron, Jonathan Hickman, Matt Fraction and Ed Brubaker all sharing the writing duties. In the art department, Avengers vs. X-Men will be drawn by Olivier Coipel, John Romita Jr. and Adam Kubert.

The first issue of Avengers vs. X-Men will arrive in April of 2012.

We really liked Nancy in Hell. Aside from the last-minute change of artists in the closing pages of the series, writer El Torres and artist Juan Jose Ryp pretty much nailed the original horror series from Image that was released last year.

Keeping that in mind, Image has officially announced that Torres is hard at work on a follow-up to the original series and he’s signed on a couple new faces to help him bring hell to our doorsteps and they’ve brought a preview of the first issue!

The following is from the official press release by Image:

Spanish comics scribe El Torres has enlisted the intricately detailed artwork of Enrique Lopez Lorenzana and coloring of Fran Gamboa, to render even the beastliest citizens of Nancy’s Hell as breathtaking.

This 4-issue Grindhouse inspired miniseries presents the follow up to last years’ NANCY IN HELL miniseries, a take-no-prisoners tale of one woman versus the greatest evil. Now with the Gates of Hades left wide open, not even the angels in heaven can save our world from the hordes!

The book will be arriving in both standard print and digital format on January 25th, 2012.

If this past week has taught me anything, it’s that Marvel is taking their numbers a little more seriously as of late. With the cancellations flowing in faster that we can keep track of, they’ve now added Daken’s current solo series to the pile of books that won’t live to see much of 2012.

While the book originally spawned out of the Wolverine solo title in the closing hours of Dark Reign, Daken took on a life of its own when writers Daniel Way and Marjorie Liu took it out on its own. While it wasn’t always the best direction, it more often than not made for an entertainingly (albeit very violent) look at what made the son of Wolverine tick.

The series’ final issue should be (according to solicits) #21, which will be released in February.

If you’ve enjoyed what writer Marjorie Liu has brought to the pages of X-23′s current series, you might want to sit down for the next couple minutes as Marvel has reportedly pulled the plug on the book for reasons related to “new budgetary mandates”. CBR dug to the bottom of this story earlier today as the title seemed mysteriously absent from Marvel’s February solicits.

This title joins the growing list of books Marvel has axed over the past couple months such as Alpha Flight, Destroyers and Nick Spencer’s Victor Von Doom and should be coming to a close with issue #20, which arrives in stores in January of next year.

The most frightening thing, aside from the fact that this was actually a really strong series and shouldn’t have ever even come close to being cancelled, is that there are a number of other titles, such as Avengers Academy and my precious Thunderbolts to name a few, that actually fall short of the sales numbers that X-23 was pulling in but still remain in Marvel’s release lineup.

Could they be on the chopping block next?

If you were searching for a reason to dish out the $8 to cover your Netflix bill this month it may have just swung in (quite a while ago actually) on a web-line. Children of the mid-to-late 80s who no doubt have fond memories of the now classic Fox Kids Spider-Man cartoon which aired beginning in 1994 and ran until 1998 will be pleased to know that every episode of the show is available for steaming on your Netflix enabled device of choice.

A sizable amount of Marvel’s catalog of animated features and television shows has been available for some time on the service with more being added throughout the year. This includes titles such as the X-Men cartoon which also aired on Fox, the 1967 Spider-Man cartoon and The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes animated series to name a few.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to go find out who Spider-Man is picking for his Secret Wars team.

(Thanks Matt D!)

Dee Brown (@ltcooldee), the head of Beenox studios in Quebec (the makers of the excellent Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions and the not so excellent Spider-Man: Edge of Time), has revealed the first ever concept images for the video games adaptation of summer 2012′s reboot The Amazing Spider-Man.

The three pictures appear to be shots of Oscorp Industries, Spider-Man kicking some butt in a subway (or factory?), and finally what appears to be Peter Parker’s apartment.

According to Dee Brown’s Twitter page, an official trailer for the came should be coming sometime in the near future and, with the Columbia Pictures film set to be released on July 2nd, 2012, we also have an idea of when to expect the full game to hit shelves.

Like some sort of magic trick performed by Zatanna, Sony Online Entertainment’s MMO DC Universe Online, you know the one where you get to play as superheroes, has officially made the transition from a fully paid subscription based game to a much more affordable (for some) free-to-play model. If you’re the owner of a PC built this side of 3 years ago or a PlayStation 3, you can now download the game client, sit through 15+ gigabytes of updates and then fight evil/good guys alongside all your favorite DC heroes and villains all for the cost of zero dollars.

Those that feel compelled to spend some money still have the ability to do so with DCUO’s pricing plans, which will also give you bonus items, more inventory slots, etc. Here’s the breakdown of the plans:

Free Access – Just like it sounds. Download and play the game for free. You also get all ongoing game updates (except DLC packs).

Premium Access – This next level of access opens up to you if you spend at least $5 in the in-game store. Premium Access grants you added benefits that improve your experience in the game, such as more inventory slots, more character slots, bank slots and more free Vault tickets. So all you have to do is pick up some cool items in the store or buy a DLC pack and you unlock Premium Access. The best part? Once you unlock Premium Access you keep it for the life of your account.

Legendary Access – With Legendary Access you can unlock the maximum level of features and benefits. To unlock Legendary Access you can pay for a $14.99 per month game pass, or save big with a discounted multi-month pass. Lifetime members are automatically granted Legendary access. Legendary Access also includes all DLC packs at no extra charge.

So, why are you still reading this? The streets of Gotham City aren’t going to save themselves. If you’re interested in playing with the gang here at POA, make yourself available to the USPS3 server and toss your user name to us via the contact form or in a comment below.
