A bit of a slow weekend coming up for theatrical releases, the most notable of them being Paranormal Activity 3 and The Three Musketeers.

Paranormal Activity 3

Director: Henry Joost, Ariel Schulman
Screenwriter: Christopher B. Landon
Starring: Katie Featherston, Sprague Grayden, Lauren Bittner

The Gist of It: The third film in the franchise is a prequel set in the 1980′s with the story focusing on a young Katie (a character in both of the previous films).

My Thoughts: I definitely enjoy horror films and I have to admit that having the directors of Catfish on board is definitely good news, but only time will tell as to whether the film does anything new for the franchise as Paramount is turning these things out like hot cakes. Critics so far seem pretty impressed so we’ll have to see.

The Three Musketeers

Director: Paul W.S. Anderson
Screenwriter: Andrew Davies, Alex Litvalk
Starring: Logan Lerman, Milla Jovovich, Matthew Macfadyen, Ray Stevenson, Luke Evans, Mads Mikkelsen, Gabriella Wilde, Juno Temple, Orlando Bloom, Christoph Waltz

The Gist of It: Adapted from the classic novel by Alexandre Dumas, Musketeers is about young D’Artagnan meeting and joining forces with the Musketeers (played by Matthew MacFadyen, Luke Evans and Ray Stevenson). Milla Jovovich plays the bad ass Milady, seriously could Anderson possibly choose another actress?

My Thoughts: While I’m not expecting anything too deep with regards to the story, I imagine the cast and action will provide more than enough fun for the whole family. Anderson is a damn good action director so I think it’ll be a good time.
