While I (along with several other people on the internet) was under the impression that Marvels latest batch of teaser images were setting up the next big crossover event following Fear Itself, that apparently isn’t the case… at all.

Instead, as we learned earlier today during the last day of San Diego Comic Con, writer Matt Fraction along with artist Terry Dodson will be launching a brand new Defenders series involving all the characters teased last week. Check out the first image, which you can also click to see a larger version of, below.

What’s the take on Hulk? With him clearly absent from the cover, will he be a late arrival to the team or could he maybe playing antagonist during the first arc? With Fraction be using the red or green version of the character? All these questions (and more) will hopefully be answered when the first issue of the book hits a comic shelf near you this December.
