First Look at Adam Hughes’ Batgirl #2 Cover [Update]

The gang over at DC Women Kicking Ass have been on one heck of a roll throughout this whole DC relaunch. First unearthing the new Justice League lineup a week or so back and now giving us our first look at Adam Hughes’ cover for Batgirl #2 which shows a younger Barbara Gordon than we’ve seen lately that has many people wondering just how far back this DC reboot will take the character.

As always, be sure to click on the image below for the full version.

My take? I’m thinking it’s a flashback issue. It might not be to a situation or event that we’ve already seen in the current DCU but given her age in the cover shot and fact that her suit looks different from the one we saw on the cover to issue one, this won’t be a present day story.

Thoughts?

Go.

Update: A quick update from DCWKA about the “deaging” of Babs in cover:

So is Barbara Gordon purposely being presented as younger on the cover? Based on a comment from Adam Hughes’ wife, she is. Last night, the artist Alison Sohn left me a comment stating:

The editors at DC told Adam that the cover to issue one looked too old, and asked him to make her younger looking. He’s just drawing what he’s told to draw.

Soooooo not a flashback after all?

Oops.

You may not be too far off with the flashback idea.

To my understanding Killing Joke is supposed to still count after the reboot, we can only assume the shot to the spine doesn't paralyze her indefinitely. Batgirl is one of the characters I'm most curious about coming into this DC re-imagining.

    Sick cover.

Killing Joke will still count, yes. From what I hear, the relaunch will actually have Babs rehabilitating herself back from the attack which leads me to believe we might have a flashback or two before the current timeline begins.
