Russell Crowe to Play Jor-El in Zack Synder’s ‘Man of Steel’

The casting is just getting better for Warner Brothers’ reboot of the Superman movie franchise, the Man of SteelVariety has revealed that Russell Crowe has just been cast as Superman’s biological father Jor-El, a role played most memorably by Marlon Brando in the original film.

Crowe joins a star-studded cast that already includes the likes of Amy Adams, Diane Lane, Kevin Costner, Michael Shannon, and Henry Cavill as Superman/Clark Kent.

Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel is scheduled to start shooting next month, with a theatrical release planned for late 2012.  David Goyer and Jonathan Nolan have penned the script.
