NYCC 2010: Bendis & Maleev Take On Moon Knight

WRITTEN BY Mike Haynes   Posted on 10 October 2010   Marvel News, NYCC 2010

Fans in attendance at Saturday’s Cup O’ Joe panel at NYCC were first to learn that the fan-favorite creative team of Brian Michael Bendis and Alex Maleev, the duo responsible for one of the most critically acclaimed Daredevil runs in history and the recently released Scarlet book from Icon, will be taking on Moon Knight in the coming months in hopes of redefining the character as they did with the Man Without Fear back in December 2001.

No date has been announced for the book but early 2011 seems like a good bet.

Spider-Woman: failed. Scarlet: shit. Avengers: even MORE shit. Moon Knight by Bendis is going to be awful, how do I know? Well, when was the last time that Bendis did something actually good? 5 years ago. His talent is like his hair: used to have it, but not anymore

I really like a lot of Bendis' work so I'm incline to disagree with you there.

Bendis and Maleev's run on Daredevil back in 2001 was one of the best. That being said, I'm confident that their work on Moon Knight will be pretty solid.

"Back in 2001", what does that said to you, Mike? We haven´t seen anything close to his run on DD in almost a decade. Why should I belive that this time is going to be different? Just because is a solo book? Neither Spider-Woman or Scarlet give us a sign that he could do something good again (Well, maybe in those cases it´s because he´s a mysoginist)

If you don't feel that way, fine.

As I said in my initial reply, I really like a lot of Bendis' work. I'm a huge fan of his Ultimate Spider-Man run, I've been pretty content with Scarlet thus far and I dug his stuff with Maleev on DD back in the day.

I completely understand where you're coming from, he's not a perfect writer but I personally find a number of his books very entertaining. Couple that with the fact that I feel as though a character like Moon Knight has the potential to make a much larger impact on the Marvel U (should he be placed in the hands of the proper creative team) and you've got, to me anyway, what appears to be a good idea.

I understand, Mike, I´m not judging you. My point is that it´s hard to believe that he could do something at the level of DD when we haven´t seen anything like that in almost a decade.Five years ago, I would say "I can´t wait for this book!" but no now, because he´s been doing the same thing in every comic (there´s no way to difference it) and the worst part is that it´s a shame, because I really, relly, really love Moon Knight. I will read at least the first arc, of course, but we wait four years for Spider-Woman and it was trully dissapointing. (Why Marvel cancelled the book instead of fix it? ) (I know "they were "planing this for years", but, does you actually believe that?)

To be honest, I don't believe that they were.

Like you said, the first arc should be worth checking out at least. If the book comes even close to their prior work on DD, I think it'll be worth following.

Thank you for your comments Fernanda!

"If" and, the only way to know it, is reading it, we agree at that :D

I´m going to follow your reviews about the book =)

            Merry Christmas and Happy 2011!
