PANELS OF THE WEEK: August 16th – 20th

WRITTEN BY Mike Haynes   Posted on 20 August 2010   Panels of the Week

This week we got a handful of Chaos War news including the return of a fallen god, Bruce Wayne’s possible White Lantern status, the launching of Uncanny X-Force, a ton of highlights from this past week in comics plus much, much more. Have your own highlights from the past week? Toss us a comment and let us know!

  • This past week, word broke that Mike Oeming would be bringing back the God of War within the pages of a tie-in book to the upcoming Chaos War crossover event taking place within the Marvel U. Anyone else getting the feeling that this might be a little too soon? I guess I’m just jealous it’s him and not The Sentry. (image 1).
  • In other Chaos War news, writer Jim McCann (currently working on the Hawkeye & Mockingbird series) is set to resurrect Alpha Flight during the event as well. (image 2).
  • Mark Millar is gearing up for the September 2nd launch of his new monthly magazine CLiNT that will feature serialized comics (such as the debut of the new Kick-Ass book), interviews, columns on games, movies, TV shows and more. (image 3). Check out CLiNT Mag’s official Twitter page for the latest on the project.
  • Marvel will be launching the first issue of Uncanny X-Force on October 6th (image 4) and they’re throwing a party. Who’s invited? You, your buddies and anybody else that visits your local comic book shop. CBR has all the details.
  • DC has released their full November solicits list and there’s someone interesting gracing the cover of Brightest Day: White. Lantern. Batman. (image 5) Is there any possible way that this isn’t Bruce Wayne?
  • Another action packed week as far as comic highlights are concerned including Mary Jane’s near death experience thwarted during a pretty heroic interruption by everybody’s most people’s favorite web-slinger. (image 6)
  • Call me late to the party but I finally managed to check out Morning Glories #1 and while I’d like to put the entire comic up here as a highlight, Image might have a couple issues with that. Instead, I’ll show you a guy getting killed by a ghost which is clearly pretty highlight worthy. (image 7) If you haven’t had the chance to check Glories #1 out, I’d highly suggest it. It’s like FreakAngels… meets Persona 3.
  • In the pages of New Avengers #3, Victoria Hand showed us that she can still be a team player… and look pretty awesome at the same time. (image 8) On a side note, she’s also decided to challenge Cable for the record of “Biggest Gun EVER“.
  • We saw Steve Rogers take matters into his own hands this week by donning The Worldmind and becoming Nova Rogers (image 9)… or is it Steve Nova… or Nova Steve. I’ll let you decide.
  • Lastly, if there was any doubt in your mind that Man-Thing was anything but badass, Thunderbolts #147 put those thoughts to rest. (image 10) Remaining completely silent while ripping monsters to pieces effortlessly? Sounds pretty badass to me.

That’s it! We’re done! Have a great weekend!
