Rapid-Fire Reviews: August 19th, 2010

It was definitely a good time to be reading any and (almost) every team book from Marvel this week as we got new issues of New, Secret and Academy from the Avengers line as well as a new issue of Thunderbolts which, interestingly enough, actually tied into the Avengers Academy as well. Otherwise it was the usual seemingly weekly book from the Batman line, a new issue of Brightest Day and Power Girl to round out the week. To the reviews!

Power Girl #15
While the Gen. Lost tie-in still feels pretty forced, Power Girl 15 is still a heck of a lot of fun and looks great with Basri on art. #

Streets of Gotham #15
I must have seriously misread something in the solicit for Streets 15 as neither Hush, Catwoman or even Batman appear in the book. Brutal.

Amazing Spider-Man #640
With ASM 640, @JoeQuesada and Rivera deliver action, humour and a feeling of familiarity while keeping things fresh. Overall, great read. #

Thunderbolts #147
Rather pointless crossover with Academy but an entertaining issue nonetheless with great, smart writing and wonderful art in Tbolts 147. #

Brightest Day #8
While Brightest Day isn’t as disappointing as Gen. Lost has been, there’s still nothing to really keep interest in the book as a whole.

Secret Avengers #4
Secret Avengers wraps the first arc and leaves you with closure that almost makes you feels like the series is over. Where’s the hook?

POA! Pick of the Week:

New Avengers #3
Immonen’s art and Bendis’ writing on New Avengers gets better with each issue. A few too many jokes? Perhaps but still a great read. #
