PANELS OF THE WEEK: August 9 – 13th, 2010
Yet another action-packed week for comics as we had a number of teasers from Marvel possibly predicting the futures (or lack thereof) for several big characters, a creative team for DC has officially been decided, we get a first-look at Bruce Wayne’s Road Home and much, much more!
- Earlier this week, following the announcement that American Vampire writer Scott Snyder would be taking on the writing duties of Detective Comics later this year, DC announced that artist Jock (Losers) has been made the new regular artist on the title beginning in issue #871 (image 1).
- Big news this week as Marvel unveiled the latest teaser image for their ‘One Moment In Time’ arc currently going down in the pages of Amazing Spider-Man (image 2).
- Speaking of Marvel, it looks like Daredevil is in some major trouble this November according to another teaser that Marvel has released revealing all of the Man Without Fear’s costumes being turned into kindling (image 3).
- According to The Source, Superman: Earth One artist Shane Davis has been tasked with drawing up the (connected) covers for the upcoming Bruce Wayne: The Road Home arc taking place across the entire Bat-line of books and, to the surprise of absolutely nobody, it looks freakin’ fantastic (image 4). Road Home kicks off in November.
- Yet ANOTHER teaser from Marvel this week featuring what appears to be Thor’s hammer, a mysterious stranger and the words ‘The World Still Needs Heroes’ (image 5) leading me to believe that Marvel will probably continue to create superhero comic books.
- Tons of awesome highlights from the past week including the final confrontation between Black Canary and the seemingly unstoppable White Canary. Apparently White Canary’s weakness is getting blasted off a rooftop by a screeching Black Canary (image 6) and thrown through an apartment window. Who knew?
- We finally saw Pepper Potts return to her role as Rescue in a much more Iron Man-esque suit complete (image 7) with an extremely polite J.A.R.V.I.S. UI that actually manages to plot a course for “everywhere”. Nice to see Pepper’s character becoming almost as important to the book as Stark… if not more so.
- Craig Kyle, Chris Yost and Gabrielle Del’Otto’s X-Force: Sex & Violence certainly lived up to it’s name as Wolverine and Domino engage in some… “extracurricular activities” (image 8) while trying their darnedest not to get murdered at the same time. If you haven’t checked the mini-series out, give it a look. It’s one of the most action-packed books running right now at Marvel.
- Just when you thought you’d seen everything, the Hulk has become a vampire in the pages of Ultimate Avengers 3 (image 9) and has apparently decided that Daredevil’s trainer would probably make a better late-night snack than he would a man.
- Lastly, but certainly not least, we finally got a look at the Chameleons in the pages of Ultimate Spider-Man #13 (image 10) and one of them is a girl! Freaky, I know. Is it just me or is there something strangely fascinating about seeing Jameson with boobs? Funny stuff indeed from Bendis and Lafuente.
That’s all she wrote for this week folks! Have a great weekend!
