We’re going through an interesting time here at POA. While losing a podcast TWICE might seem counterproductive, we’re making up for it in a number of different ways including launching a number of new features and articles, such as the Panels of the Week, as well as bringing back a couple from the old days including the Awesome Arena and our old Rapid Fire Reviews.

Plenty of highlights and big news this week including a look at the upcoming Avengers / Thunderbolts crossover (image 1) and the latest issue of Avengers #4 (image 2) by Bendis and JRJR in the form of a MASSIVE double-page showdown between the Avengers and… well, everyone.

As for this week’s comics, there were plenty of highlights including a pile of brutal shots from Nancy in Hell #1 (image 3), a couple laughs from the pages of Jonathan Hickman and Alessandro Vitti’s Secret Warriors #18 (image 4), Galactus taking a kicking inside the pages of Hickman’s other project SHIELD (image 5) and Leinil Francis Yu’s ultra-badass Ultimate Ghost Rider beats down Blackthorne in the final issue of Millar and Yu’s Ultimate Avengers 2 (image 6) which went on sale as well this week.

A couple big announcements this week included the addition of Paul Dini to the roster of talent that will be working on the new Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon set to hit a TV near you in 2011 (image 7), both Marvel and DC have announced their full September (Marvel / DC) AND October (Marvel / DC) solicitations that include a number of books to get excited about including the new Taskmaster mini from Marvel debuting in September (image 8) and the mysterious “Top Secret” Bruce Wayne crossover covers that DC will be putting on a number of the Bat-books released in October (image 10).

Lastly, but certainly not least, Marvel has unveiled the J. Scott Campbell variant cover for Wolverine #1 (image 9) which features Wolverine dressed as Deadpool. Want one? Good luck. Much like the previous Deadpool Campbell variant, retailers are required to send in 50 covers from a couple lists that are available online and the comic itself will be, as Marvel puts it, “an extremely limited edition variant”.

Panels of the Week is a look back at the week that was in and around the world of comic books featuring news, highlights and announcements. If you have a tip for us, submit it for a future post!
